The Indian Naval Academy is the basic defence service training establishment for the officer cadre of the Indian Naval Services and the Indian Coast Guard. The Indian Naval Academy was first established in 1969 at Kochi and is aimed at providing basic training to the officers of the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard. It was inaugurated on January 8, 2009. Apart from Kochi and Kannur, the Indian Naval Academy has its branch in Mandovi, Goa. It aims to impart the quality of the Navy that is oriented towards knowledge to the selected cadres and develop the cadets physically, mentally, and morally.
The Indian Naval Academy is dedicated to providing a sound education to the young men and women who are joining the Navy. The Academy is accredited by Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and offers B.Tech. courses in Mechanical, Electronics, and Communication Engineering. It has 120 core members as its professional faculty, which is composed of naval officers and civilians competent in their respective fields. The Indian Naval Academy is situated in Ezhimala, Kerala. The academy is sprawled across 2452 acres of lush greenery and is located at a distance of 35 km from Kannur and 135 km from Mangalore. The Indian Naval Academy is surrounded by Mount Dilli, the Kavvayi backwaters, and the Arabian Sea. It also includes a 7 km stretch of beach.
The Indian Naval Academy, Kannur campus consists of various landmarks like the headquarters, Chola stadium, parade ground, Katari cadets' mess, aquatic complex, sports field, and residentials for officers and sailors as well as civilian employees.
The campus has the capacity to house over 1500 cadets at a time. It has a library called the Panini Library, spread across 3000 sq. ft. of area. This fully automated library contains an enormous collection of books as well as dedicated internet bays for easy access to information. There are two seminar halls for conducting lectures and screening movies on weekends. Both of these are centrally air-conditioned and can seat up to 900 cadets at a time.
The Indian Naval Academy provides different facilities to the cadets for their overall development. The Mulla Aquatic Complex trains the cadets in swimming and diving; the Pereira Drill and Discipline Complex trains the cadets to be disciplined; the Angre Physical Training and Sports Complex develops the cadets' team spirit, etc.
The residential wing of the campus comprises six squadrons and one midshipmen's wing. The Indian Naval Academy campus building comprises an ECA complex that houses all the essential goods shops. It also has a "Cadet's Cafeteria" serving a healthy and palatable menu to the trainees. There is a modern and well-equipped MI room on the campus that caters to the medical and healthcare needs of the cadets.
The Indian Naval Academy has a state-of-the-art academic infrastructure that brings it at par with international standards. It consists of a fully functional, moodle-based learning software, accessible to the cadets as required. The campus houses welding, casting, woodworking, and various other labs. The Panini library ensures that the cadets may access any information at any time.
Admiral Kirpal Singh Scholarship:
The Admiral Kirpal Singh Award for Academic Excellence scholarship is available to the children of gunnery sailors to motivate them to pursue higher education after the 10th. It is a one-time award where the children are allotted cash awards on the basis of merit in the 10th, 12th, and graduation. Physical training:
INA, Kannur provides extensive physical training to the cadets in the field of sports, swimming, gymnastics, etc. Friendly matches are often organized for the Academy teams to give them the taste of healthy competition against NDA, IMA, and AFA. Inter Academy Championship, named the Bakshi cup snd the Sabhiki cup, is held on a rotation basis between these four academies to test the overall development of their training.
Equitation:
Since July 2011, the Indian Naval Academy has included equitation as a part of its training curriculum. The INA equitation facility houses 18 horses, and the cadets are trained for National Equestrian Championships. Horse riding is an essential part of the training of a cadet, and INA, Kannur ensures that the training incorporates balance, effective communication, and overall fitness into the curriculum.
Seamanship:
The seamanship curriculum of INA, Kannur consists of Rigging, Anchor work, and Boat work. Adequate seamanship training is imparted to all NOC courses, thus building a solid foundation and understanding.
Weapon Training:
Every cadet is required to have a basic understanding of weapons and how to handle them. Indian Naval Academy, Kannur includes small weapon training as an integral part of its curriculum.
Sports:

Candidates must have passed the 12th grade exam with a minimum of 60% overall in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in order to be eligible for this programme.
